FAQS
How coaching is beneficial for someone who is neurodiverse:
Coaching’s approach to problem solving begins with discovering your strengths as opposed to assuming something is broken and needs fixing. Therapy focuses on healing while coaching focuses on personal growth and is future-oriented. Studies have shown that those who are neurodiverse receive 20,000 more negative messages by age 10 versus their neurotypical peers. Over time, this has a significant impact on the development of their self-esteem and social interactions. Coaching can help create healthier neural messaging to boost esteem and restore agency. This newfound confidence will bring clarity and focus, helping pave a clearer path toward personal goals.
Where do sessions take place
All sessions are virtual.
How long do I need a coach:
The duration will vary depending on goals and desired outcomes.
How coaching is different from therapy:
Coaching is an excellent adjunct to therapy, and I recommend both. Therapy helps heal trauma, treat mental health, and focuses on the past and the present. Coaching, by contrast, is present and future-focused, providing structure and teaching skills to help you reach your goals. Coaching shows what is possible.
How my experience is beneficial:
In addition to continually researching neurodiversity and getting certified as a professional life coach, I am also a member of the community. I was late diagnosed at age 55, and my spouse and two children are also on the spectrum. I have been deeply involved in getting my children proper supports and therapeutic scaffolding to help them thrive. I have been researching this issue and talking to experts in this field for 10+ years. My lived experience makes me uniquely qualified to understand the neurodiverse experience and the struggles we face in all areas of our lives.
How Do we Create a Plan:
Coaching is a highly personal experience, so fit is important. We begin with a free 20-minute discovery call to see if the fit is right. If it feels right, then the next step is together, we create an agreement and discuss goals, developing a detailed action plan on how to achieve the desired outcome. The goal setting and action plan are at your direction. I am here to provide structure, but all decisions regarding next steps are yours.
Expectations and Support:
Coaching is an allyship built on trust. I promise to uphold high ethical standards and that you are a priority relationship during our time together. You promise to commit to doing the work required to achieve your desired goals. There will be times it will be uncomfortable, but you can count on me to be there to offer support and encouragement every step of the way. A coach holds the lantern, alighting the path forward, but only you can choose to walk it.
